Therapy offers an opportunity to learn, heal, and grow. Within a safe and collaborative relationship, we can explore the challenges you’re facing and help you come to a deeper understanding of yourself.
Through psychotherapy, many people find relief from emotional pain, develop healthier ways of coping with life’s difficulties, and experience greater wellbeing, calm, and clarity. Therapy can help you recognize your strengths, build resilience, and develop greater self-awareness and self-compassion.
As this understanding grows, so do your choices. You may begin to experience more fulfilling relationships, feel more connected to yourself and others, and move toward a life that feels more meaningful and aligned with what matters most to you.
My approach is relational, trauma-informed, and rooted in understanding how your past experiences shape your present life. Each session is tailored to you, and what you need at the time, but here are the core elements of my approach:
Building connection: Above all, I aim to create a relationship built on safety and trust; one in which you feel deeply understood, one that meets you where you are and gently challenges you to grow in new and meaningful ways. I am committed to ongoing learning and to practicing in ways that are inclusive, socially aware, and affirming of diverse identities and lived experiences.
Finding calm in the body: I use mindfulness, acceptance, and somatic (body-based) tools to help you feel more at home in your body. This might mean helping you understand your nervous system responses, manage difficult emotions, or locate emotions in your body. For example, we might work with the breath, or do a grounding practice.
Understanding your history: Together, we will explore how the ways you learned to cope in early relationships may still be affecting how think, feel, and behave today. Untangling and shifting the patterns that no longer serve you is deeper work. Rather than only managing symptoms, we look at the roots of distress so that change feels meaningful and lasting.
I became interested in the mind-body connection through my studies in yoga and meditation. My work as a psychotherapist is greatly informed and supported by over 25 years of my own practice in these areas.
I also hold degrees in English literature and Library Science. I have always been interested in stories. I believe that psychotherapy empowers you to deconstruct and retell your own story with much more compassion, hope and possibility.
It can be hard to reach out to a therapist. I offer a free, 30-minute consultation so we can see if working together feels like a good fit. It’s a very informal conversation and you’ll have a chance to ask any questions you have.
Please note that I am currently only offering appointments by Zoom or over the phone.
