The last couple of years have been extremely challenging for many of us, and perhaps we are more in need of an open and honest conversation than ever before.  People have described me as comfortable to talk to, a good listener, and capable of asking thought-provoking and meaningful questions.

Together, we can build a therapeutic relationship that will help you find ways of talking about your life, and holding the past, present, and future in those conversations.  Sharing emotional pain with others is challenging. It will take some time, and difficult parts of you will be revealed, but that work is going to lead to a deeper understanding of who you are and how you want to move forward in a more conscious and authentic way.

Therapy sessions are 50 minutes in length and are currently done by video or telephone.  You don’t need to have anything prepared, except to show up and try to talk as honestly and openly about yourself as you are able to.  Some people arrive and know exactly where they want to begin and that is where we start.  Others know that they need to talk, but are unsure as to where to start, and I can guide you through that.

With each session, we will be building on a conversation about how it feels to be you, and the experiences and relationships that have brought you to that place.  Talking about yourself will help to reveal some of the old templates that we put on the present, and with that fresh perspective, we can start to work on new possibilities that promote growth and vitality.

In my 20s, I found myself in desperate need of a conversation that I couldn’t have with friends or family.  On paper, it seemed that I should have been satisfied with my life, which made things all the more confusing.  Instead, I was struggling with my past and how it seemed to be affecting me in ways that felt very painful and limiting.  Psychotherapy allowed me to talk in an unfiltered and honest way, and to start taking responsibility for my life in a way that had previously felt unreachable.

Based on my own experiences with psychotherapy, I began studying at the Center for Training in Psychotherapy, while teaching elementary school in the Toronto District School Board.  Currently, I have a full-time psychotherapy practice, and it feels wonderful to be in a profession that I chose and makes sense to me.

At this point, I would strongly encourage you to schedule a 15-minute telephone consultation.  Finding a therapist can be challenging, and it will help to hear my voice and get a sense of what it might feel like to work with me.  The consultation will allow you to share your reasons for coming to therapy and ask any questions you may have.  At the conclusion of the consultation, you will then have the option to move forward with the first session or take some time to think about it before making your decision.  Please email me at rodwaytherapy@gmail.com and we can find a time to speak.
