As human beings, we learn to live in this world through our experiences. Our experiences shape the ways that we relate to others. We create patterns and behaviours as a response to these experiences. These ways of relating often sit outside our awareness, leaving us feeling confused and unsure as to why we feel so sad, afraid, angry, anxious, tired, hopeless, or alone. Sometimes our emotions feel so big that they can interfere with our ability to live our lives in a fulfilling way. They can cause panic attacks, fatigue and other bodily symptoms or they can play out in our relationships. Often, we’ll try everything we can to avoid feeling the way we do but it never quite seems to go away. We can feel isolated and disengaged from the rest of the world or feel like we’re just going through the motions. You are not alone in this, and psychotherapy can help.

In psychodynamic psychotherapy, we attempt to learn about your unique experiences and how they are affecting your life today. Instead of fighting them off, we allow them to have a voice, to be heard, worked through, and integrated.
Often, people have never had the chance to be listened to, to have someone’s undivided attention. As a psychotherapist, I offer a space of respect and compassion, a place to explore thoughts, feelings and past/present experiences. It is a place to learn how to build healthy relationships that can heal instead of hinder.
I work with clients who are seeking medium to long-term psychodynamic psychotherapy. We will meet once a week, unless there is a need for more frequent sessions. Sessions are 50 minutes long. You, as the client, will determine what you bring to the sessions and the pace that we will take.
I have been involved in psychotherapy for the past 20 years. When I began, I felt that life was overwhelming. I felt alone, confused, and hopeless. Simple tasks seemed impossible. I sought psychotherapy to help with my depression and anxiety. I had no idea how much my life would change because of it.
I completed a six-year program at the Centre for Training in Psychotherapy. During this program, I was immersed in psychotherapy, including four years of psychodynamic group therapy. This process helped me to uncover my own patterns and triggers and learn how they affect my relationships. Going through this experience myself has helped me better understand what it is like to be the client. I have been the one in the client’s chair and thus know first-hand how meaningful this experience can be.
I have been seeing clients as a psychotherapist since 2014. In that time, I have learned the importance of the relationships we create together as therapist and client. My life is continually impacted by these relationships and I feel honored to be able to be a part of them.
I believe that it’s important to feel that you have found a good match when looking for your therapist. I offer a free 30-minute consultation in my office in Toronto. This gives us a chance to develop a sense of each other and whether we are a good fit. If you are interested in setting up a consultation, you can email me to arrange a time to meet in person, speak on the phone or meet online.
