Psychotherapy allows us to look at ourselves, others, and life in general in a new way. We can consider how our experience has shaped us and explore the patterns of thinking and behaving that no longer serve us.
In psychodynamic or depth therapy, we’re able to discover how unconscious thoughts and feelings interfere with our living a life that is satisfying and fulfilling. Unconscious influences can keep us trapped in self-limiting behaviours, such as addictions and unhealthy relationships. Bringing the unconscious into awareness allows healing to begin and helps us to feel whole.

Therapy with me is interactive and collaborative. I provide a safe space in which to explore what’s important to you, and no topic is taboo or off-limits. You are free to discuss your greatest hopes and fears. You can expect calm, compassion, empathy, and non-judgment. I practice medium to long-term therapy (typically 6 months or more) and I meet with clients once or twice a week for a about 50 minutes ($150 per session).
I decided to become a psychodynamic therapist as a result of my own transformative experience in this kind of therapy. I went to therapy because I was suffering, stuck, and generally lost. Over time, I found a new sense of peace and freedom, along with the feeling of being more at home in myself and in the world.
I graduated from the Centre for Training in Psychotherapy, whose 6-year master’s-level program includes theoretical study along with extensive group and individual therapy.
I’ve had a wide variety of work experience, mostly in the helping professions. As a registered nurse, I worked in community-based treatment programs for people living with psychosis and in the emergency department of a mental health hospital.
Please see my personal website for more information about me and how I work.
If you would like more information or to schedule a free 30-minute consultation, please contact me at michaelgbernard7@gmail.com. The consultation will allow us to determine if we’re a good fit and give you a chance to ask any questions that you may have. I usually am able to reply within 24 hours.
